Conditions as of Friday, February 10, 2012:
Events
The Pike Lake Annual Candlelight Ski/Hike will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Over 300 luminaries will light two 0.75-mile trail loops for the evening. Skiers, hikers, and snowshoers share the trails. A roaring bonfire will warm the night, and refreshments will be served in the shelter. Members of the Northern Cross Science Foundation will be on hand with their telescopes to guide visitors through the night sky. This event is supported by the Friends of Pike Lake. Meet at the South Shelter at the beach/picnic area. 6-9 p.m.
Trails
The forest received about three inches of light, fluffy snow on February 10. All trails are very slippery with many areas of ice underneath the fresh snow. Trails will not be groomed until more snow is received.
Pets are not allowed on the Black Forest Nature Trail or cross-country ski trails and must be on a leash 8 feet or shorter at all times in other areas. The accessible trail pier has been removed for the season. A portable toilet is available at the nature trail parking area year-round.
Beach
Swim area buoys have been removed for the season. Pets are not allowed in the beach/picnic area. The beach toilet buildings are closed for the season. Portable toilets are available at the beach parking area and nature trail parking area.
Camping
The campground and all campground facilities are closed for the season. The campground will reopen on April 27, 2012.
