Sugar River State Trail ConditionsConditions as of Monday, February 6, 2012: The Sugar River State Trail is open for hiking and bicycling. Users should remember to not use the trail if the surface is soft enough to leave tracks or ruts. Hunting is now closed along the trail between Monticello and Albany. This public hunting area will open for hunting again in mid-October 2012. Snowmobiling is permitted when the trail has 4 inches or more of snow or a groomed base. For the most up-to-date conditions, please call the Green County Trail Information Line, (608) 527-2910. More InformationState trail passes are required for bicyclists 16 years and older. Passes may be purchased at self-registration boxes along the trail and at local vendors. Pet owners, please be sure to have your pet on a leash, 8 feet or shorter, at all times. You must pick up after your pet. Horses, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and UTVs are not permitted on the Sugar River State Trail corridor at any time of the year.
