Council Grounds State Park Conditions

Conditions as of Monday, January 30, 2012:

Trails

Ski trails are groomed, tracked and in good condition. Some trails remain closed due to the tornado this summer. Please ask at the park which trails are closed.

Events

Ice Drags will start Saturday, January 21 and continue until Saturday, February 11.

Nature

Canadian geese, and various species of ducks have been congregating on the Wisconsin River. Turkeys and deer are frequently spotted around the park.

River

The boat landing docks have been removed for the season.

Camping

The campground and all facilities are closed for the season.

Campsites can be reserved 11 months in advance online or by calling (888) 947-2757.

Firewood Notice: Due to the potential of carrying harmful tree pests and diseases, firewood from out of state or from more than 25 miles away is not allowed on Wisconsin State Park or Forest properties. Also, firewood that has been in the Wisconsin emerald ash borer quarantined area [PDF 102KB] is not allowed on properties outside of the quarantined area. Please buy firewood at or near the park or forest where you are going. Call the DNR toll-free Firewood Hotline, (877) 303-WOOD ((877) 303-9663) for information before packing for a trip.

More Information

Admission stickers are required on all vehicles year-round. You can self-register at the flag pole or by going to the winter office in the shop area of the park.
