Natural Heritage Inventory Township Data by CountyThe Natural Heritage Inventory (NHI) County data are based upon data from the Wisconsin Natural Heritage Inventory. The data are intended as a general reference for the public, and are presented as a list of rare species (endangered, threatened and special concern) and other sensitive resources (high-quality natural communities and significant natural features) that are known to occur within each Township in a county. The NHI County Data do not identify specific locations of endangered resources. As such, the NHI County Data are appropriate for general planning and assessment purposes only. The NHI County Data are not an appropriate resource for screening or reviewing a proposed land development or land management project for potential impacts to endangered resources. If you need information about whether a proposed project may impact rare species or other sensitive resources, please request an Endangered Resources Review [PDF] of the proposed project. This Review provides a letter to the applicant listing rare species, high-quality natural communities, and significant natural features found in or near the proposed project area. The letter will also provide specific recommendations to enable projects to comply with the Wisconsin Endangered Species Law (29.604 state stats.) and other laws/regulations protecting rare species. If you need information for an entire County please see the NHI Elements List by County, which display known endangered resources and high-quality natural communities occurring within a county. For more specific information about endangered resources, please contact the Endangered Resources Program.
