2007-2008 Wolf Ecology & Track Training Courses

We will again hold training sessions for our volunteer carnivore tracking program this fall. We will hold three sessions across the state to provide opportunities for you to attend. Each session will include: mammal track identification, recognition of gait patterns, use of forms for recording data, methods for conducting surveys, and a test on your ability to identify tracks of Wisconsin mammals. You may use your field guides and rulers to take the test.

All new trackers will need to take this training to be assigned survey blocks for carnivore tracking, and all new trackers should have taken a wolf ecology course through Timber Wolf Alliance or Timber Wolf Information Network (Treehaven). Veteran trackers do not need to attend the training courses annually, but we encourage you to take these about every-other year, to polish up on tracking skills, and improve recording of data. All veteran trackers will need to contact us if you plan to again survey your survey block, if you have not already done so.

Training sessions will run from 9am to 3pm. Please try to register at least 2 weeks before each session. Locations, dates, contact persons, and phone numbers will be as follows:
