Rivers and Streams of the Upper Chippewa Basin

The Upper Chippewa Basin (Water Management Unit) has approximately 3,000 miles of rivers and streams; about 2600 stream miles have been inventoried over the years, with a portion assessed for condition (see below). Most waters in the basin are in overall good condition. However, many waters have not been evaluated or monitored due to resource constraints. The numbers below only reflect the Water Management Unit (hydrologically defined basin). Information for the larger Upper Chippewa Geographic Management Unit, which includes major portions of the headwaters of streams in Barron County and other areas of the Lower Chippewa Basin, are also provided below. As we survey waters we will update the numbers and narratives for streams and rivers.
