Northern Region Storm Water Resources
Lake Superior Basin ResourcesA Notice Of Intent (NOI) can be obtained by contacting a northern region storm water specialist at the Spooner, Superior or Rhinelander Service Center. Complete the NOI and submit it along with the Erosion Control Plan and the Storm water Management Plan and the proper fee at least 14 working days before you plan to start land disturbance. The Northern Region staff have put together an Flowchart (PDF, 33KB) to assist in complying with the rules. Erosion Control Plan toolsThe Erosion Control Plan addresses pollution caused by soil erosion and sedimentation during construction up to the final stabilization of the site and must comply with NR216.46. A common misconception is that the erosion control plan is the same as engineering plans or drawings. The erosion control plan is primarily a narrative document with some mapping requirements. Check out the Erosion Control Plan Power Point Presentation (PDF, 2.8MB) for more details.
Storm Water Management Plan toolsThe storm Water management plan should include descriptions of management practices the will be installed to control peak flow, pollutants, and runoff volume that will occur in the post construction designed site and must comply with NR216.47. In addition the plans must comply with the performance standards in NR151. Check out the Storm Water Management Plan Power Point Presentation (PDF, 332 KB) for more details. Erosion control and a storm water management plan tools for small sites (less than 1 acre)The Northern region staff has prepared a worksheet to assist in small site plan preparation. The Small Site Worksheet (Word) can be downloaded here. NR151 toolsNR151, as it pertains to storm water, establishes the runoff pollution performance standards for the site design Best Management Practices. These standards include: Peak flow control, Total Suspended Solids control, Infiltration requirements and Protective areas around water resources The Northern Region Staff have put together two flow charts to assist in determining what performance standards are required. Two sets of standards exist; one is for transportation projects (PDF) and the other is for non-transportation (PDF) projects The new Storm Water Management Technical Standards are designed to help meet the performance standards by providing standardized design criteria.
