Scenes from the Sugar Pecatonica Basin
This is a reach of Badger Mill Creek in Verona. The streambank in the image has been brushed a Wisconsin Youth Conservation Corps team and volunteers from the Eastview Heights Neighborhood Association. Other volunteers for the project came from the Friends of the Ice Age Trail and from the Dane County Conservation League.
This is Deer Creek in the West Branch Sugar River watershed near Mt. Horeb. Deer Creek is ERW coldwater stream The section shown is one where the stream has been narrowed, banks stabilized, and fish habitat structures installed this summer and fall. The work was done using state and local funding as a Targeted Runoff Management (TRM) project, The Upper Suagr River Watershed Initiative also had a role in getting this project off the ground. The area to the right of the stream is a new Dane County park in the process of being developed.
This image is the East Fork Raccoon Creek west of Beloit in Rock County in the Lower Sugar River watershed. It is an ERW stream and a cool-cold water stream with a good assemblage of forage fish, including three on the state's special concern list. Last Revised: Friday August 04 2006
