Public Attitude Research
Public Implementation of the Clean Air Act

Overview

Since the early 1990s, the DNR has been tracking public response to the federal Clean Air Act. Amendments to this law had direct impacts on the public (e.g., carpooling was encouraged, inspection/maintenance programs accelerated, media campaigns undertaken to shift behavior, reformulated gasoline introduced). Our current study examines motorists' response to these various measures, as well as their recall and response to various messages in the media.

Methods

We will conduct focus groups with those living in the 6-county non-attainment area. These may be supplemented by limited survey research.

Status

This project is in the planning stage currently. We anticipate conducting focus groups in early 2002-2003.
