Exam Dates

The DNR's Central Office in Madison will send an exam application 2 months prior to the upcoming exam date to those operators that have taken an exam(s) in the last 3 exam cycles.

An operator who has not taken an exam(s) in the last three exam cycles MUST contact their regional water/wastewater, septage, landfill, or incinerator certification coordinator for an application.

You can also visit the forms page for a list of exam applications that can be downloaded, printed, and sent to the appropriate address listed on the form.

New operators will also need to contact their regional water/wastewater, septage, landfill, or incinerator certification coordinator for an application or study guide. Study guides for water/wastewater are also available on the "What is a Certified Operator?" page.

Operator addresses need to be kept current, so please contact the DNR if your address changes. Exams are given simultaneously at 6 different locations (one in each region) statewide.
