Internet tools can expand the capacity of decision makers by delivering essential information and predicting the likely impacts associated with different choices. These tools can empower and enhance the abilities of those responsible for caring for the future of our communities and our state. The Wisconsin DNR is working to make local decision makers aware of available computer tools that can aid their decision processes.
Newsletter ArticlesWisconsin Towns AssociationTo help spread the word about computer tools, DNR staff members have prepared a series of articles on “Computer Tools for Planning, Conservation, and Environmental Protection” for the Wisconsin Towns Association’s monthly newsletter. This publication reaches 1,265 towns and 18 villages throughout Wisconsin. The focus of these articles is on how computer tools can assist the readers (7,000 town officers) with land use planning and local decision making.The articles below are all PDF files. Wisconsin County Code AdministratorsArticles are also being published in the Wisconsin County Code Administrators' DeCoder newsletter. The DeCoder is a quarterly publication that goes out to every county Zoning, Planning and Sanitation Department in Wisconsin. Exhibit and PowerPoint PresentationTo increase awareness of computer tools and their use for local government decision making, DNR staff developed a tradeshow exhibit and automated PowerPoint presentation [PDF file] to use at local government association meetings and tradeshows. The exhibit and PowerPoint presentation [PDF file] introduce local officials to a range of computer tools and illustrate examples of tools that can be used to find information, prepare maps, and predict impacts.
