Land Use Resources & Community Planning

How we use land and the land use decisions we make today are perhaps the most important, long-term environmental issues facing Wisconsin.

Innovative thinking and foresight are ways businesses can facilitate the creation of greenspace in their development plans and how urban communities can create greenspace from previously ignored areas.

The vast majority of land in Wisconsin is, and will remain, privately owned. As a result, individual landowners, developers and local governments are the principal land use decision-makers.

In order to be successful in addressing environmental concerns, the DNR must work with others to help guide development patterns that maintain Wisconsin's character and minimize negative environmental effects.

This site provides information and resources for citizens and local governments interested in addressing land use issues. It also provides background information on "smart growth" and resources for those involved in their community's comprehensive planning efforts
