Through a cooperative agreement, Science Services is responsible for implementation of the DNR´s responsibilities pertaining to the development of the state´s transportation infrastructure (highways, airports, railways, and harbors).

Throughout the process of planning, designing and building transportation projects, DNR and WisDOT work together on a variety of issues that frequently involve erosion control, waterway crossings and potential impacts to wetlands, fisheries and endangered species.

Science Services is also responsible for reviewing highway projects proposed by local units of government, specifically those requiring a Trans 207 review.  DNR staff who manage the review of DOT and Trans 207 projects are located in the regions and in the central office (located in Madison).
