Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

CD Rom/Internet Upcoming Safety Education Classes

ATV Education Classes

All operators at least age 12 and born on or after Jan. 1, 1988 must complete an ATV Safety Certification course in order to operate on public ATV trails and areas in Wisconsin. Operators of all terrain vehicles (ATV) now have a convenient online method to receive ATV Safety Certification through an Internet Web course recently introduced by the state Department of Natural Resources. The Internet course is available at www.offroad-ed.com/wi. As an alternative, check the DNR’s Upcoming Recreational Safety Education Classes. Web page to find classroom courses available around the state.

Boating Education Classes

For those who are not able to locate a boating safety course in their area, the Department now has an online boating safety course (exit DNR). This class is not recommended for children under 14 years of age.

Bowhunter Education Classes

There are currently no CD Rom or Internet classes developed at this time for Bow Hunter Safety Education.

Basic Hunter Education Classes

The Department offers an optional method of certification for those that prefer a program other than the traditional hunter education course. If you would like to attend one of these courses you must:

  1. Pre-register with the instructor whose course is listed below. If there are no classes listed below, that means there are none currently available *. Please check back periodically. As soon as an instructor plans a course we will post it on our listing right away.
  2. The instructor will advise you where to obtain either the CD-ROM or provide you the internet address for the book portion of the course. You must complete the CD-ROM or Internet course before attending the field day.
  3. Print the quizzes and bring them with you to the field day.
  4. Attend the special field day specifically designed for this program. At the conclusion of the field day you will take two exams; one written and one practical.

* If none are available please drop us an email stating the county you are from at this address lesafety@dnr.state.wi.us; you will not receive a reply from us. The purpose of the email is so we can assess the need for this type of course. Thank you for your help in letting us know your needs.

The CD course covers everything taught in the classroom and is totally self-contained, all the way down to the final exam and certification at the end. For further information or to request a copy of the Wisconsin Snowmobile Safety Certification CD-ROM, please email your name and address to lesafety@dnr.state.wi.us or phone us at 608-264-8544.

Note: CD-ROM students must be at least 16 years old in order to take the course via the CD-ROM. The CD course costs $10; payment is due at the time you return the exam results and the application to the department. Your certification will not be processed until the fee has been received.
