Law Enforcement Profile, Amie Egstad

Conservation Warden Amie EgstadI started as a Conservation Warden in 1994 and am presently stationed in the Fox Valley/Appleton area. I like the flexibility of the work hours, meeting a lot of people, being your own boss, the great comradeship, great pay and the opportunity for advancement.

The cons include the living arrangements you have as a recruit before you are permanently stationed, not knowing where you will be permanently stationed until the end of your first year, and working weekends and some holidays once you are stationed.

Some women may be worried about the attitude of the public towards women, but I've found it very positive. It seems like male subjects don't get as excited when dealing with female wardens as they might with male wardens due to egos. -- Amie Egstad, Winnebago County Conservation Warden
