All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Trails

All-Terrain Vehicle Area Trails for Spring, Summer, Fall 2008

The bureau of Community Financial Assistance does not provide trails maps or trail information.) To receive a map of a ATV trail, contact the appropriate County ATV Coordinator.

Counties, towns, cities, villages and tribes can apply for funds to acquire, insure, develop, and maintain ATV trails, areas, and routes. Levels of reimbursement vary according to project and trail type.

Eligible levels of reimbursement are as follows:

  • ATV trails available for spring, summer, and fall riding may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible maintenance costs (up to $450 per mile).
  • ATV trails available for winter riding may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible maintenance costs (up to $100 per mile).
  • Development of ATV trails and areas may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible costs.
  • Major rehabilitation of bridge structures or trails may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible costs.
  • Maintenance of ATV intensive use areas may be reimbursed up to 50 percent of eligible costs.

The DNR allocates funds in accordance with the following ranked priorities:

  1. Maintenance of existing, approved trails, areas, and routes.
  2. Liability insurance acquisition.
  3. Easement acquisition.
  4. Major rehabilitation of bridge structures or trails.
  5. Land acquisition and development of new ATV trails and areas.
  6. DNR Regional Community Service Specialists must receive applications by April 15th.
