Green Tier - Tier 1 Participant

Though headquartered in Hutchinson Minnesota, the Eau Claire, Wisconsin plant is now the largest of the Hutchinson Technology Inc. (HTI) operations. The company has come a long way since its start etching circuit boards in a chicken coop in 1965. HTI currently focuses on the leading technology in disk drive components, offering assembly, photoetch, Trace and its new TSA+ to the advancement of current technology in disk drives. The company also supplies biomeasurement technology to serve medical industry drives. Like so many companies, HTI is looking to the future in sustainability and they have accomplished much in the past year. The most significant of their successes have occurred in reductions of waste, chemical use, water use, and energy use. From 2007 to 2008, by working with their stakeholders and company teams, HTI Eau Claire realized a 7,593,000 kWh reduction in energy use, a 60% recycling rate of solid waste and a 338,000 Therm reduction in natural gas usage. Under Green Tier, the Company will continue to advance their Hutchinson Environmental Management System, utilizing it to help them achieve superior environmental performance over their previous efforts.
