New Requirements for Green & Healthy Schools

We are pleased to announce that our newest Step 2 topic area, Healthy Lifestyles, is now live! This topic area focuses creating a healthy, sustainable school that promotes proper eating and exercise habits, spending time outdoors and being active in the community. The Healthy Lifestyle assessment contains five sub-topics:

With the addition of our newest topic area, we have also modified the requirements for the Green & Healthy Schools program. Schools that sign the Step 1: Pledge form on or after February 1, 2010 will fall under new program requirements. Please read the comparison chart below to learn about the new requirement areas.

Schools that sign the Step 1: Pledge form on or after February 1, 2010 Schools that signed the Step 1: Pledge form before February 1, 2010

Schools are required to complete assessments for the following topics:

  • Waste & Recycling
  • Energy
  • Water
  • School Facilities & Grounds
  • Healthy Lifestyle

Schools must also select two of the following optional topic areas to complete:

  • Transportation
  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
  • Chemical & Mercury Management
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Community Involvement

Total number of assessments to be completed: 7

Schools are required to complete assessments for the following topics:

  • Waste & Recycling
  • Energy
  • Water

Schools must also select two of the following optional topic areas to complete:

  • Healthy Lifestyle
  • Transportation
  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
