Wonderful Wacky Water Critters

Phantom Midge

phantom Midge larva

The phantom midge larva is so clear it's nearly invisible. What a great disguise for playing hide and go seek! It hunts tiny crustaceans by grabbing them with its antennae. The phantom midge breathes right through its body. The pupa of a phantom midge can swim with jerky movements. The adult looks similar to a mosquito but does not bite; it probably doesn't eat anything in its short adult life.
