Northern Ring-necked Snake

Status: special concern

length: 10-15 inches

This snake looks like the prairie ring-necked snake in size and color. The difference is in the belly. This is the northern ring-necked snake range map. The northern ring-necked snake has a solid light yellow belly without any markings.

Unlike most other snakes, the northern ring-necked makes its home in moist deciduous forests. There it eats earthworms, beetles, salamanders, frogs, and other small snakes.
