First frost.

Plants change color. Look for bright red sumac and poison ivy (but don't touch!).

Look for an orange harvest moon to rise as dust hangs in the air from harvested farm fields.

Prairie dock and gayfeather blooming in prairies.

Dark-eyed juncos & white-throated sparrows arriving to overwinter in Wisconsin from Canada.

Orange, brown, and red colored leaves falling from trees. Make a leaf print with them.

Southern gray squirrels caching nuts while their northern relative, the red squirrel, rips apart pine cones for seeds to store for a midwinter meal.

Red-winged blackbirds grouping in flocks.
