The Department regulates high capacity, school, and wastewater treatment plant wells through a plan approval process managed by the Private Water Systems Section. This is a plan approval process not a permit process. Construction features, geology, groundwater extraction rates, and impacts to public utility wells are reviewed through the plan approval process. High capacity wells include irrigation wells, industrial wells, dewatering wells, school wells, resort wells, and recreational camp wells, but it does not include municipal wells.
Our goal is to issue plan approvals within the statutory time limit of 90 days (65 working days).
The average number of days from receipt of an application to issuance was 33 days, well below the 90-day goal.

In 2004 there was a change in the method used to calculate response time. Our goal was to provide more uniform year to year reporting and to provide response times in calendar days not work days.
