Redesign Implementation

The Waste & Materials Management Program is currently implementing the recommendations of its Program Redesign Final Report [PDF 362KB]. The redesign will help the program achieve its vision of "Moving Towards Zero Waste," during a time of shrinking resources. This vision emphasizes materials management as well as waste management. Through this vision, we hope to encourage less use of materials and toxic substances as well as greater re-use and recycling.

More efficient use of staff resources will be accomplished through 1)changes in organizational structure; 2) the use of environmental results programs; 3) streamlining regulatory processes; 4) partnering with stakeholders; and 5) providing greater public access to information and data on the Web.

Five foundation projects for the redesign are currently underway. These are: 1) implementation of a new organizational structure; 2) staffing of our solid waste plan review and hazardous waste licensing processes; 3) defining our decision-making process 4) providing plan approvals on the Internet; and 5) The Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on solid waste and recycling.
