New Hazardous Waste and Used Oil Rules

Effective August 1, 2006, Wisconsin's hazardous waste (NR 600 series) and used oil (NR 590) rules were repealed and completely replaced with new rules all in the NR 600 series. Like our old rules, our new rules are based on U.S. EPA's hazardous waste and used oil rules. Our new rules did or do the following:

  • Adopted federal rule changes that occurred after our old rules were developed,
  • More closely follow the organization and content of the federal rules,
  • Improve consistency with other states' hazardous waste and used oil rules,
  • Reduce paperwork requirements, and
  • Better encourage legitimate recycling of hazardous waste.
