Spear Fishing Law Enforcement Assistance

(ss. 29.947 and 20.002(13), Wis. Stats.)

Counties, towns, cities, villages, and tribes are eligible to receive up to 100 percent of the actual law enforcement costs directly attributable to the Chippewa spearfishing season.

Costs eligible for reimbursement include:

  • Salaries, supplies and support services directly attributable to providing additional law enforcement services during spearfishing season.
  • "Additional law enforcement services" means an extraordinary type or level of service which is not normally provided or budgeted for by a law enforcement agency.

There is no local match required. If the total amount of reimbursable costs exceed the amount the Legislature provided for payment, DNR will prorate payment.

Applications are available through the DNR Bureau of Law Enforcement and must be submitted by July 1 of the calendar year in which the additional law enforcement services are provided.
