Municipalities and public inland lake districts can apply for funds to conduct dam maintenance, repair, modification, abandonment and removal. The DNR will fund 50% of the eligible project costs with a maximum grant award of $200,000 per project. A local match of 50 percent is required. Eligible projects include dam repair, reconstruction, modification or abandonment, or removal. Funding priority is determined by

  • Dam size.
  • Dam hazard rating.
  • Downstream zoning.
  • Dam repair costs.
  • Financial need of the municipality.

Nearly all funds have been allocated. No additional state funding is available unless provided by the legislature. When funds are available, applications are due April 1st of each year.
