By Southeast Region October 24, 2017

Contact(s): Elaine Johnson, DNR water management specialist, 262-574-2136

RACINE, WI.- The Racine County Drainage District has applied to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for permission to lower the water level behind the Rochester Dam on the Fox River in the Village of Rochester, Racine County, for the 2017-2018 fall and winter season. The drawdown is necessary to complete proposed dredging projects in the Wind Lake and Goose Lake branch canals.

The controlled drawdown will begin on or about Oct. 23, 2017, and will be completed before water temperatures drop below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The gates will be completely opened. It is expected water levels will drop several feet below current levels from Rochester Dam upstream to Waterford Dam, and from Rochester Dam upstream to Wind Lake Dam. It is anticipated that the impoundment will start to be refilled beginning Feb. 15, 2018, and be completed by March 1, 2018.

The 9- foot high dam is owned by Racine County and operated by the Racine County Drainage District.
