By West Central Region April 30, 2013

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will conduct several prescribed burns in Dunn County this spring. Prescribed burning is a tool commonly used for wildlife habitat management.

Fire helps control against invasive woody plants in prairie fields and stimulates the growth of desirable, native species.

This year prescribed burns will be conducted on the following properties:

The Muddy Creek and Dunnville wildlife areas.

Nine Mile Island State Natural Area - About one mile east of State 25 and 1.5 miles south of County Y

Rock Falls Extensive Wildlife Habitat Property - A half mile southwest of Rock Falls along State 85.

Dunn County S.cattered Wetlands - Approximately three-quarters of a mile south of State 12-29 along County E.

Xcel Energy "Tyrone" property - About 6 miles northeast of Durand in southern Dunn County.

Lower Chippewa River State Natural Area - Near County H and State 85 in southern Dunn County.

This type of activity normally does not have the potential to cause significant environmental effects, normally does not significantly affect energy usage and normally does not involve unresolved conflicts in the use of available resources.

Public comments regarding this activity will be received by Jess Carstens, DNR wildlife biologist, through May 10, at DNR, 921 Brickyard Road, Menomonie, WI 54751 or by phone at 715-232-1519.
