Village of Arena: Requesting DNR approval for lift station upgrade

News Release Published: October 7, 2008 by the South Central Region

Contact(s): Stephen Smith, wastewater engineer, Madison: (608) 266-7580

ARENA – The Village of Arena is requesting approval from the Department of Natural Resources for proposed improvements to their municipal sanitary sewer system. The village will likely apply for a Wisconsin Clean Water Fund loan to help pay for the improvements.

While this type of action normally does not involve significant adverse environmental effects, the DNR is soliciting public comments regarding the impacts of the proposal.

The proposed improvements include abandoning the existing Pine Street Sewage Lift Station and installing a new replacement sewage lift station at the existing site adjacent to the intersection of Pine and Sharon Streets.

The proposed lift station replacement is necessary to correct various safety, structural and design code deficiencies associated with the existing lift station and to incorporate additional reserve sewage pumping capacity for potential future growth within the village.

The estimated construction cost for the proposed project is $284,000, assuming the village gets a Clean Water Fund loan. The sewer user cost to residential customers within the Village is not expected to be significantly impacted by the proposed project.

Interested persons can obtain more information regarding the proposed project by contacting Foth, Inc. at (608) 242-5900 or Steve Smith, Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, 101 S. Webster Street, P.O. Box 7921, Madison, WI 53707; 608-266-7580, E-Mail: Stephen.Smith@wisconsin.gov.

Written or verbal comments must be submitted to Mr. Smith by Oct. 21, 2008. Based on review of comments received, DNR may prepare an environmental assessment before making a final decision on approving or denying the project.
