DNR seeks comment on mercury reduction air rulesNews Release Published: March 11, 2008 by the Central Office Contact(s): Al Shea, Air and Waste Administrator, (608) 266-5896 MADISON – The Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on revisions to a sweeping mercury reduction rule first proposed in 2007 that, when implemented, would set Wisconsin on course to meet Gov. Jim Doyle’s directive to reduce mercury releases to the environment by 90 percent. A public hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 7, 2008 in Room G09 of the State Natural Resources Building (GEF 2) located at 101 S. Webster St. in Madison. The rule and supporting documents area available for review on the DNR Web site.
Written comments on the proposed rule and preliminary public health finding may also be submitted to Jon Heinrich, Bureau of Air Management, PO Box 7921, Madison, WI 53707 or by e-mail to Jon.Heinrich@Wisconsin.Gov no later than April 14, 2008. Written comments will have the same weight and effect as oral statements presented at the public hearings. “This rule is good for Wisconsin and goes well beyond requirements previously established under federal law,” said DNR Secretary Matt Frank. “It will significantly improve public health and the health of our fisheries and habitat.” Public comments will be summarized and provided to the Natural Resources Board for review. Last Revised: March 11, 2008
