Local businesses honored for improving air quality

RACINE--- Three Wisconsin businesses were honored recently by the Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air (WPCA) for their voluntary efforts to improve air quality.
The awards were presented during the 2012 Clean Air Extravaganza at Gateway Technical College (Racine campus) on Thursday, May 24. The Clean Air Extravaganza is an event to celebrate the accomplishments of Wisconsin businesses and organizations that are improving air quality by reducing emissions from their facilities and fleets, improving energy efficiency, providing employee commuter options, and developing ways to educate the public about air quality issues. The WPCA is a coalition of over 300 businesses, community organizations, schools and government agencies committed to improving air quality through voluntary action.
DNR’s Southeast Regional Director Eric Nitschke presented awards to the following organizations:
• Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation was presented with both a Recognition Award and the Commuter Champion Award for their comprehensive energy reduction measures and offering of commuter benefits to employees. MGIC is the nation's largest private mortgage insurer. MGIC serves lenders throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and other locations helping families achieve homeownership by providing affordable, low-down-payment mortgages.
• University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee was presented with a Recognition Award for their commitment to energy improvements.
• Leonardo Academy was presented with a Clean Air Stewardship Award for their extensive assistance to other companies that lead to limitless emission reductions. Leonardo Academy is a charitable nonprofit organization that develops integrative sustainability solutions designed to enhance the environmental stewardship, social responsibility and economic prosperity of organizations, corporations and individuals.
