WDNR Environmental Impact Statement Record of Decision for Glacial Heritage AreaNews Release Published: September 21, 2009 by the Central Office Contact(s): John Pohlman, Wildlife Biologist, (608) 264-6263 MADISON - The Department of Natural Resources announces the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Glacial Heritage Area is in compliance with the Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act (WEPA) per s. 1.11, Wis. Stats., and ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code. A record of decision was entered on September 18, 2009. The Department of Natural Resources released the draft Feasibility Study, Master Plan, and Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Glacial Heritage Area on June 1, 2009. The public comment period ran until July15, 2009. The Department received a large volume of input during this time, particularly through the on-line survey that was posted on the DNR web site. The vision of the Glacial Habitat Area, which is centered in Jefferson County, is to create a network of corridors and places which enable and encourage a variety of compatible and sustainable outdoor recreation; preserves, restores and protects significant habitats; benefits and integrates with local economic growth, including farmland protection; and enhances quality of life by maintaining and improving the land and water resources that underpin the economy. A record of the public reaction to the proposed plan and how the Department has responded has been added to the EIS and can be viewed at: Glacial Heritage Area (GHA) Documents The Department will present the revised Feasibility Study, Master Plan, and Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Glacial Heritage Area to the Natural Resources Board at their October 21 meeting in Madison at the DNR Building (101 S. Webster Ave.). An agenda for the meeting is usually posted three weeks in advance at Natural Resources Board Agenda. If you would like to provide verbal or written comments to the Board, instructions are provided at Public Participation or by calling Laurie Ross at 608/267-7240. The GHA plan and associated materials that were submitted to the Board can be viewed at Glacial Heritage Area (GHA) Documents. Last Revised: September 21, 2009
