Bridge work spurs necessary sewer upgrades in GalesvilleNews Release Published: September 15, 2009 by the West Central Region Contact(s): Scott Boran, DNR wastewater engineer, (608) 266-7385 The City of Galesville has requested approval from the state Department of Natural Resources to replace sewerage lift station #2 and to replace the sanitary sewer along Hwy. 53. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to replace the Hwy. 53 bridge over Beaver Creek. The existing bridge supports a gravity sanitary sewer which is on the discharge of the lift station. The sewer must be removed before the bridge can be demolished and the lift station, which is 50 years old, is not adequate to support future development. The estimated project cost is $617,370. The City of Galesville will likely apply for a Wisconsin Clean Water Fund loan to help pay for the replacements. The average monthly user charge for a typical residential customer is estimated to increase by $3.05 per month to $26.05 per month. While this type of action normally does not involve significant adverse environmental effects, the DNR is soliciting public comments regarding the impacts of the proposal. Written or verbal comments can be directed to Scott Boran at DNR, Box 7921, Madison, Wisconsin 53707 or at (608) 266-7385 or by e-mail at Scott.Boran@wisconsin.gov. Comments will be accepted until Oct. 8. Based on comments received, the DNR may prepare an environmental analysis before proceeding with approval or denial of the proposal. The analysis would summarize the DNR’s consideration of the impacts of the proposal and reasonable alternatives. Last Revised: September 15, 2009
