Wisconsin's Outstanding and Exceptional Resource Waters Program is designated to maintain the water quality in Wisconsin's cleanest waters. An outstanding resource water is defined as a lake or stream which has excellent water quality, high recreational and aesthetic value, and high quality fishing and is free from point source or nonpoint source pollution. An exceptional resource water is defined as a stream which exhibits the same high quality resource values as outstanding waters, but which may be impacted by point source pollution or have the potential for future discharge from a small sewer community.

This map was created by Matt Rehwald, WDNR Bureau of Watershed Management and consists of data that is current as of 2006.

For the most recent Outstanding and Exceptional Resource Waters designations, please use the Surface Water Data Viewer. This tool is a dynamic Web-mapping application that provides water resources, monitoring and water quality assessment data.
