Wild turkey restored

Releasing Turkeys

Hunter dollars paid for the reintroduction of wild turkeys to Wisconsin in 1976, and nurtured the flock's expansion across the state. Today, turkeys now live in the southern two-thirds of Wisconsin. Nearly 248,000 hunters (169,000 in spring, 79,000 in the fall) enjoy turkey hunting. Many more people enjoy watching the birds on our landscape.
