Step 3 - Action and Implementation

The Action and Implementation step concentrates on using what your school has learned from the Green & Healthy Schools Assessment for the five sections of the Assessment you have completed and the criteria in Green & Healthy Schools Requirements Chart to change behaviors and implement health, safety, and environmental teaching activities and action projects. Your school can use the Green & Healthy Schools Resources for lessons and project ideas; however, we encourage schools to be creative and come up with some of their own projects. To qualify as a Wisconsin Green & Healthy School, your school must have completed and continue to meet all the criteria in the Discovery and Inventory step and fulfilled all the criteria under the Action & Implementation column in the Green & Healthy Schools Requirements Chart for all the topic areas. Again, the Green & Healthy Team is an essential part of this process.

How to complete the Action and Implementation step

  1. Review the Green & Healthy Schools Requirement Chart [PDF 172KB] to determine which criteria under the Action and Implementation column your school has already met and decide which criteria for each of the topics your school needs to address. Your school can use recent activities to fulfill the criteria.
  2. Review Green & Healthy Schools Resources for lessons and project ideas.
  3. Develop an Action Plan and implement.
  4. After your school completes all the activities listed above and meets all the Green & Healthy School criteria, fill out the Green & Healthy Schools Application [PDF 233KB] - Action and Implementation, and mail it to:

  5. To aid you in completion of the Green & Healthy Schools program, here is a sample application [PDF 372KB].

Congratulations, you are now a Wisconsin Green & Healthy School!

Your school will receive a Wisconsin Green & Healthy Schools Certificate and stickers and will be listed as a Wisconsin Green & Healthy School!

We encourage schools to develop a sustainability plan to ensure your school continues its current safe, healthy, and environmental practices and projects.

Your school is also encouraged to Reach Higher and make continued improvements that will not only have an effect on your school, but also your community. If you're up for the challenge, work to meet the Reaching Higher criteria. (NOTE: This is not a requirement to remain a Green & Healthy School.)
