AspenAll but 17 percent of the state's aspen timberland is located in the northeastern and northwestern areas of the state.About 36 percent of the state's aspen stands are over 41 years old.

Due to regeneration, reforestation of marginal croplands and heavier harvests of older trees, the aspen forest type age distribution has become more balanced.

During the period 1983 - 1995 average annual removals of aspen were about 111 percent of average net annual growth.

The state continues to support aspen harvests as a management strategy to encourage healthy forests.
