Inventory Examines City Trees - Wisconsin State Journal

Hunters Encouraged to Follow Safe Firewood Guidelines

With the annual gun season deer hunt in progress, now is good time to remind hunters and others who'll be enjoying some fall camping about a tiny insect that threatens Wisconsin ash trees. The beetle is the emerald ash borer, or EAB, and hunters and campers can lend a hand to help keep Wisconsin free of this pest by restricting the movement of firewood.

Trees Sacrificed to Find the Emerald Ash Borer - WBAY.com

The destructive emerald ash borer is now turning up in more states. First detected in Michigan, the beetle's infestation has now spread to Ohio, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, and Illinois, as well as parts of Canada. Wisconsin is close to the infestation zone, and efforts are intensifying to keep the exotic insect away. Because Green Bay is a port city and the insect came from Asia, Green Bay is the first city in Northeast Wisconsin to conduct such an extensive detection survey. The survey is now in its final stage.

Ohio EAB Research - The BG News

Southeast Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Maryland have all found the emerald ash borer destroying the various types of North American ash trees. Ground breaking emerald ash borer research is being done in Bowling Green to help find a way to stop the metallic beetle from killing these trees.

Ash Trees Coming Down in Cleveland - Cleveland.com

Park workers will begin cutting down 322 trees this month. The work will take three years. The largest trees are being felled first, because they are more time consuming and costly to remove and more dangerous if they fall, the city said in a news release.
