Emerald Ash Borer Toolkit
The DNR Urban Forestry Program has produced an Emerald Ash Borer Toolkit for Wisconsin Communities to prepare them for the anticipated arrival of EAB. Here are some of the resources available in the toolkit:
Emerald Ash Borer Toolkit.
- information for large and small communities to create a readiness plan and team;
- mechanisms to assess and prepare a community’s forest;
- procedures to help detect and control EAB;
- guidance for removal and utilization of ash trees;
- sample mutual aid agreement and guide to receive assistance from other communities in the event the need arises;
- resources for communicating with the media, community officials and their staff, and the public; and
- references to educational resources such as websites, handouts and testimonials from communities in other states that have already dealt with EAB.
How to get a toolkit
The toolkit comes in three formats, a 3-ring binder, a CD and as files downloadable from this web page. In addition, you can browse the table of contents and view or copy individual files.
3-Ring Binder
There are limited copies of the binder. These are reserved - one for each Wisconsin community and one for each urban forestry consulting company that provides services to Wisconsin communities. Please contact your regional urban forestry coordinator to request a copy.
CD
CD's containing revised EAB information will be available in early June 2008. Requests will be filled at that time. The revised information is already available online and can be downloaded using the link below.
The toolkit CD contains all the items in the binder except for a few items that are only available in hard copy (the magnetic bumper sticker for example). If you order a CD, you will also receive a packet of the hard copy only items, while supplies last. Where to order additional copies of the non-electronic materials is included on the CD. Use the form below to order a CD and packet. CDs and packets will be mailed as supplies allow.

You can view and copy the individual electronic toolkit files, ordered by the table of contents.
Updates to the EAB Toolkit
The original toolkit was released on February 4, 2007. As new toolkit items are added and existing items revised, we will be posting update packages for downloading. These will include a revised table of contents which will note where the new files go and what documents the revised files replace. Check back periodically for these updates. The first and latest update is June 1, 2007.
How the EAB Toolkit was Developed
This toolkit is a collaborative effort with the Wisconsin DNR, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection, UW-Extension, and USDA Forest Service. Contributions from other states, universities, community foresters, arborists, and municipal staff helped guide its development. The toolkit is designed for maximum flexibility to accommodate the needs of various users.
