The most recent survey (2001-2005) indicates that productive forest land makes up about 900,000 acres or 38% of the total land area of the GMU. Forest typesOak-dominated forest types (white oak/red oak/hickory, white oak, and northern red oak) account for 50% of timberland acreage in the Lower Wisconsin GMU. Hard maple-dominated types make up 21% and bottomland types such as sugarberry/hackberry/elm/green ash, silver maple/American elm and black ash/American elm/red maple make up another 9%.
