Can I post my lands?Open forest tax law lands may not be posted to deter the public from using them. Closed Managed Forest Law (MFL) lands may be posted so long as it does not prohibit public access to designated open lands behind them.Landowners may post open lands to prevent misuse by the public, vehicular travel being an example. When posting for such reasons signage must state specific uses the land is open for. Simple wording (text) for signs may be available from the local Department of Natural Resources (DNR) forester. A landowner does not have the right to control the number of people using open lands or require they get permission. Improper posting of forest tax lands is a violation of the law and may result in a penalty or program withdrawal. Last Revised: Monday July 30 2007
