Monitoring Best Management Practices

BMP Monitoring

Wisconsin began monitoring timber sales in 1995 to provide baseline data to evaluate the success of Wisconsin's voluntary forestry best management practices (BMPs) program, as well as to document the efforts of landowners and forestry professionals administering forestry BMPs.

Since the monitoring effort began, BMP application rates have generally increased. Improvements in BMP application rates; however, should not preclude future monitoring efforts. It is essential to routinely monitor BMP application to document the sustained effectiveness of Wisconsin's voluntary program.
