Space Still Available for Fall Workshops

Space is still available, but limited, for DNR Urban Forestry Workshops regarding Tree Risk Assessment and Emerald Ash Borer. Instructors are Dan Traas and Brian Pelot from Ranger Service, Inc.

A series of 14 workshops will be held in 11 locations throughout Wisconsin. Cost is $20.

Energy Bill Adopted by House Without Trees Provision

Washington, DC (August 4, 2007)- The House passed a wide-ranging energy bill on Saturday that will require most utilities to produce 15 percent of their electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar power. President Bush has vowed to veto the energy bill because it does nothing to encourage increased domestic production of oil and gas. The Energy Efficiency Through Trees legislation crafted by Rep. Doris O. Matsui was not introduced.

Gov. Doyle Appoints Preston Cole to Natural Resources Board - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Gov. Jim Doyle recently appointed Preston Cole, superintendent of Milwaukee's environmental services, to a six-year term on the state Natural Resources Board. Cole, 46, worked as a forester with the Missouri Department of Conservation before beginning work in 1991 with Milwaukee's forestry department. As environmental services superintendent, Cole supervises a city division with 600 employees responsible for trash collection, snow plowing, recycling and forestry.

He also serves as a member of the commission overseeing the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.

Disreputable Tree 'Experts' On the Prowl in Ohio - Cincinnati.com

Some dishonest tree companies may be preying on Mason, Ohio residents fearful of their trees being infested by the emerald ash borer. The Mason Public Works Department has been receiving calls in recent weeks from residents who are reporting suspicious companies visiting their homes and talking about the bug.
