Public Hearing Relating to Grants for Catastrophic Damage to Urban Forests

The Wisconsin Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, May 1 at 9:00 a.m. at 300 Southeast in the State Capitol on Assembly Bill 36. The bill authorizes the DNR to provide match-free urban forestry grants to communities in catastrophic storm situations.

Wisconsin citizens are invited to attend, testify, register in favor or opposition and/or contact the committee chair to express their opinions on the bill. Please share this notice with others.

DATCP Secretary Urges Wisconsin Residents to Burn Purchased Firewood

Wisconsin Secretary of Agriculture Rod Nilsestuen asked Wisconsinites who have purchased Taylors Wood Products, Inc. firewood from a statewide home improvement store to burn the firewood as soon as possible as it may contain the ash-killing emerald ash borer.

It is important to remind citizens that they should be aware of local outdoor burning restrictions and to keep an eye on the potential for fire danger. Burn Responsibly.

EPA Watershed Academy Webcast- May 2nd

The Environmental Protection Agency has released the Watershed Plan Builder , an interactive, Web-based tool to improve efforts by states and local communities in protecting and restoring local water resources. For information on the Watershed Plan Builder please see: http://www.epa.gov/owow/watershedplanning/ [exit DNR].

EPA will host a Webcast on the Watershed Plan Builder on May 2, 2007 from 1-2:30 p.m. EDT.

Local watershed organizations, municipal leaders, and others are invited to sign up for these free, on-line Webcast training sessions. Please note that there are a limited number of toll-free phone lines available, so please register early to guarantee your spot! For those that are not able to register for a Webcast, a streaming audio version of the training will be made available after the live seminar for the public to listen to and view.
