2010 Arbor Day Poster Contest for 5th Graders
The Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division is sponsoring the eighteenth annual Arbor Day Poster contest for all state 5th Graders. The contest is part of a national competition sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation.  

The 2010 theme is “Trees are Terrific…and Energy Wise!”

Contest materials include engaging lesson plans and hands-on activities to teach fifth grade students about the important role trees play in the production and conservation of energy! All activities correlate with National Education Standards for fifth grade.

The National Arbor Day Foundation has switched to an all-electronic format, so hardcopies of contest announcements are no longer available. If you would like to receive e-mail notifications regarding this contest you may add your name to the e-mail notification list.

Contest Details:
Only one poster may be submitted per school or organization, so a school or organization contest is necessary. Judging guidelines and complete rules are included in the 2010 Poster Contest Guide [PDF 4MB].

Entries must be postmarked by February 10, 2010.

The artwork must be original and signed by the artist. It may be done in marker, crayon, watercolor, ink, acrylic or tempera paint. Brighter colors make the best posters! No computer generated art or glued collages are allowed. It must be no larger than 14"x18" and no smaller than 8½"x11". The theme must be on the poster, spelled correctly and easy to read.

Awards will be given to the top three posters in the state and the first place poster will be forwarded to the Arbor Day Foundation’s national competition. The top three winners and their teachers will be recognized at a special awards ceremony where student will be presented with plaques and savings bonds. They will also receive a tree to be planted at their school or in their community. Teachers of the winning students will receive scholarships for a Learning, Experience & Activities in Forestry (LEAF) teacher’s workshop and professional development training in the international award-winning Project Learning Tree program for educators in Wisconsin.
