Tree Tolerance to Flooding

A frequently asked question has recently been, "how long will trees tolerate flooding before injury results?" Unfortunately, environmental conditions associated with flooding are poorly understood, and even individual trees within the same species, may respond differently, making this a very difficult question to answer.

Global Warming Bill Blocked in the Senate - WashingtonPost.com

Debate over the Climate Security Act ground to a halt before ever really getting started. The bill, which had bipartisan support, fell a dozen votes short of the 60-vote threshold it needed to overcome a GOP filibuster and move to final consideration. The bill is unlikely to come up again this Congress.

Technology and the Urban Forest

The Alliance for Community Trees is hosting a national webcast, Technology and the Urban Forest on June 19 from 12 noon to 1:00 PM CST. The informal training provides an opportunity for community forestry practitioners to learn about successful programs and how they can be adapted in their communities.

Technology and trees is no more an oxymoron than urban forestry. If your mission is to restore, enhance, and protect the tree canopy of a given locality, then urban forestry technology tools can help you set and achieve ambitious goals using a suite of tools including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and tree benefit calculators. Extrapolating the data into bottom line dollars and cents can be a powerful tool for gaining the attention of public officials.
