Element: TransportationWhat is this element and how is forestry connected to it?
Within the context of planning for a community's transportation system, forestry concerns play a minor but consistent role. Many communities concentrate their resources on developing roadways. Communities have a great responsibility to plan for their transportation. It is important to think across the spectrum of transportation options while respecting the natural features as well as local economic stability. Thus it is important to be aware of the location of forest corridors and plan for appropriate modes of adjacent transportation. Trail systems should also be considered in this element. Pedestrian and other non-motorized transportation through forestlands can enhance the community's connection to its forest resources. Trail systems allow people to experience forests on a meaningful scale as well as connect destination points and places of interest with minimal adverse impacts.
