Toolbox Overview
The Planner's Toolbox is part of the Division of Forestry's Smart Forestry for Smart Growth initiative to help communities consider Wisconsin's forest resources throughout the comprehensive planning process. The Toolbox aims to provide local communities, planners, and resource professionals with the tools and support they need to develop comprehensive plans that sustain the ecological, social, and economic benefits of Wisconsin's forests. The tools provided will help to incorporate forests and address forest-related issues within all elements of a comprehensive plan.
The toolbox has the following three sections:
Assessment This section provides forest data, maps, and considerations for communities conducting their assessment, allowing community members to better understand what role forests play in their community and how to consider them in their initial assessment.
Planning Here you will find tools to consider forests and forestry within each planning element as well as how to address important forestry issues in your comprehensive plan. Model implementation language is given both by element as well as by issues facing Wisconsin's forests to help you develop goals, objectives, and policies that address forests within a specific element or a forest issue that is important to your community.
Implementation Within this section, tools are given to assist you in developing & accomplishing forest based goals within your comprehensive plan. A full listing of model forestry language can be used in conjunction with the sample goals, objectives, and policies to develop appropriate implementation language for addressing forests in your community. A listing of grants, plans, programs, and other resources is also available to assist in accomplishing your goals and objectives. In addition, forest fact sheets give more information on specific forestry issues and why they might be important to consider in comprehensive planning.
