Interactive mapping

Maps help present information in a form that is readily understood, and in a way that is meaningful to broad audiences. Putting interactive maps on the web is a natural progression of the communication the WDNR has been providing for many years.

So how are web mapping applications different from PDF or JPEG maps you can download to your computer? First, web-mapping applications are "data driven." That is, as the data and databases used to create the maps change, so do the maps. Also see: Interactive Web Mapping Overview (DNR).

In addition, web-mapping applications are interactive. This interactivity is important because you have the opportunity to see only the areas you care about, how the map looks, and how much detail you want to see. For a list see: Interactive Web Mapping Applications (DNR).
