Bois Brule River Brook Trout Experiment
Gravel added to enhance brook trout spawning success.
This experiment attempts to increase brook trout abundance so some of them will again enter Lake Superior and become coasters.
Objective: Improve existing brook trout abundance enough to reconnect the stream population with it's lake shore habitat.
Experiment initiatives include:Improving stream habitat by adding spawning gravel with the help of the Brule River Sportsmen's Club, re-exposing historic spawning sites that were buried under beaver impoundment's, adding woody cover, removing problem beaver that block fish migration and establishing more restrictive angling regulations.
